I was born in Santa Cruz, California in 1979. I have looked at, made, and studied art for as long as I can remember. Sharing my love of art and the creative process with my students, visiting museums, making art in my studio, wandering galleries, and attending drawing and ceramics classes are where
I want to be. 

 

Currently in my own practice, my focus is on making figurative representational paintings in oil and acrylic. I paint subjects that are current in my life such as
my children (perhaps in an attempt to slow time), places I visit (and wish I could stay longer) and commissioned portraits for others. For me, my artistic practice is an effort to describe a moment, to linger in the beauty or curiosity of that experience, and to document and memorialize my own story. My camera is always with me. I capture spontaneous, unposed images that I later use as a visual reference. In every painting I begin with a sketch onto a prepared substrate. My next step is a tonal underpainting, followed by layers of paint.
